Irish Whiskey

Irish Whiskey

The word “whiskey” is derived from the first word of Gaelic phrase “uisce betha” – meaning “water of life”. Indeed, there aren’t many places in the world that can match the skill and quality that’s present in distilleries on the Emerald Isle. It has a very intense history – being the most popular spirit in the world, it suffered a long period of decline in the late 19th century, where within the space of a century, the number of distilleries in Ireland had dropped from over thirty to just three. Nowadays, since the late 20th century, there’s been a bit of a renaissance in the industry and, with a number of new distilleries being constructed, the selection of sufficiently aged products will expand rapidly in the near future.
